The COVID-19 pandemic is still impacting the United States' economy. Even though the Internal Revenue Service delayed the tax filing deadline, many may still file early -- if they haven't already. Some taxpayers may be relying on their refunds for financial certainty after an uncertain year. A new survey from MyBankTracker.com asked more than 3,500 Americans how they plan to use their tax refund.

Personal income dropped and disposable personal income fell in February after double digit gains the previous month. Real DPI decreased 8.2 percent in February and Real PCE decreased 1.2 percent; goods decreased 3.3 percent and services decreased 0.1 percent (tables 5 and 7). The PCE price index increased 0.2 percent. Excluding food and energy, the PCE price index increased 0.1 percent (table 9).

As the one-year anniversary of the COVID-19 pandemic reached the United States, surprisingly, nearly seven-in-ten (69%) Americans revealed that they are optimistic about their current financial outlook and nearly one-third (30%) are more optimistic compared to previous economic downturns according to the MassMutual Consumer Spending & Saving Index, released today. Nearly one third of consumers (31%) say COVID-19 has made it more likely they will purchase life insurance within the next 12 months, according to initial findings from the 2021 Insurance Barometer Study. The study, conducted jointly by nonprofit industry trade associations LIMRA and Life Happens, finds Millennials (ages 22-40) seem to be most influenced by the pandemic when it comes to coverage.
